Pattern Powered Playroom

Hello! It’s been a long time away from blogging but I’m excited to be back with a little blurb on my most recent home project! This final trimester of pregnancy had me craving one last creative outlet before baby Rory joins us and turning a never used space in our home to a bright, sunny, happy, play space seemed to fit the bill perfectly!

I imagine us getting up in the mornings and spending hours bumbling around in this space with coffee, music, and plenty of soft, baby lounging spots. This room is great because it has french doors that close it off from the main part of the house, and another set that open onto our backyard patio - meaning it gets all the best natural light!

I really wanted this to be a no rules, super fun, color filled space that felt whimsical and just joyful! This meant leaning into lots of pattern! It started with the vintage chinoiserie couch that I’ve been hanging onto for a couple of years waiting to use - and once I found the rug from our collection that mimicked its bright colors - I was able to start layering in other pieces!

Those cute floral parsons stools are a vintage find from years ago - I paid $7.99 each if you can believe it! The bolster pillow is thrifted (some of my favorite pillows are - its high end custom upholstery fabric - far nicer than anything you could run out and grab from Target!) So add pillows to your thrifting list - you’ll be so glad you did! The mirror is vintage Burlwood - an oversized mirror is so great to reflect light and make your space feel bigger! Vintage Perrier poster was $10 at a yard sale - eventually I will change the frame but for now I’m ok with it. The fur pillows are from West Elm (overpriced in my opinion - I got them on clearance.) But they’re linked for you here. The canopy was a amazon impulse buy - I figure it will be a fun hiding spot when Rory is a little older and crawling around. I’m really pleased with the quality considering how inexpensive it was, and I finished it off with a little play mat I found at TJ Maxx - linking a similar one here. That sweet giraffe is an integral part of the playroom in my opinion - a very cute affordable addition.

Vintage chair with matching ottoman in a perfect floral print, thrifted pillow in a contrasting print, vintage lamp ($24!!) and thrifted blue baskets! I wanted baskets for the bottom shelf so we can stash away toys and have them easily accessible, these are perfect for that! Vintage art print behind the chair, most of the books, vintage vases and even that blue patterned picture frame ALL THRIFTED - are you noticing a theme?

The light!! I was so excited to find this light - I actually had picked it out for the nursery but budget only allowed a new light for one space or the other - so playroom won! It’s so charming and perfect size - it’s a great piece and if you’re looking to support another small business I couldn’t recommend this one more! linked here.

This side of the built ins isn’t really done - but same concept! Baskets for the bottom to facilitate play and clean up, and fun colored books and shelf pieces. Made a cushion for the vintage wicker child’s chair I had, and replaced the ugly floor registers with the same ones I use in the rest of the house - linked here.

After our big home reno this year we did NOT have a budget to re do this room - it really needs new flooring but we just couldn’t swing it. Instead, we spent about $1000 to get the popcorn ceiling removed and the window look through in the brick filled by a mason. Then the whole room got a fresh coat of white paint and filled with all these fun pieces. Splurge on one or two pieces (a great rug that will stand the test of time is my suggestion) then get creative with the rest. Be patient! Don’t go out and feel like you have to buy things just to fill space. Buy pieces that truly bring you joy and you’ll end up with a space you love and want to live in!Linking a few of my playroom rug picks below!
